RESTAURANTS & CAFÉS
Petit
Lardon,
3, Rue Batéguier +33 (0)4 93 39 06 28 Map Run by a husband and wife couple for 17 years, 'Alan' is out front and his wife
does the cooking. They serve rustic French food with a relaxed feel and the prices are
very reasonable. The restaurant is enjoyed by locals and tourists and has a
multi lingual menu. Dishes include French Onion Soup, Steak au Poivre with
dauphinoise potatoes, Confit of Duck, and Pan fried Sea bass with Saffron Rice.
Le Cave,
9, bd de la
République Map
www.restaurant-lacave.com This restaurant is in all the guide books but it is well worth a visit. Its
a small intimate restaurant tucked away from the glitz and glamour in the back streets of Cannes. Its
serves traditional Provencal food, extremely well presented and rich flavours.
Dishes include courgette flower fritters, cod in a Provencal sauce and Escalope
of veal. Its really popular with the locals so you may need to book.
Gaston Gastounette,
7,
quai Saint Pierre Map
One of the famous, larger, and more expensive restaurants in Cannes, it is well
known for its Bouillabaisse (a very rich fish stew) and many other fish and
seafood dishes. All dishes are served in a theatrical way, with a formal
atmosphere and a sense of occasion. The restaurant has a classic old French
elegance styling and has fantastic views of the old port.
Cafe Nicholas, Rue
Chabaud
Map This place is perfect for lunch, if you can get in to sit
down. Its where all the locals have their lunch; normally the plat du jour. They
serve fresh large salads and delicious omelettes with real home made French
fries. Its in the back streets of Cannes, look for the famous jeweller 'Louis
Julian et fils' with the black marble, and its on the adjacent street.
The Plage Royal, Boulevard
de la Croisette
Map www.plageroyale.com This is one of many lunchtime restaurants on the
beach, not far from the Grand Hotel. You can eat there in the winter months
(except Dec) and still feel the sun on your face whist enjoying the food. In the
summer months you can have a meal here and sit on the beach afterwards or pay to
sit on a sun bed. It is expensive as its in a central tourist area but the
food is always good and the setting beautiful; perfect for entertaining clients
or meetings. Typical dishes include salade nicoise with freshly grilled tuna,
moules and frites, and the selection of ice cream here is fantastic.
L'Up Upside Down Cafe, Place
du General de Gaulle +33 (0)4 93 99 27 70 Map www.up-side-down.com You can come here for lunch or dinner, the menu is
completely eclectic with oriental dishes, pizza, pasta, salads, gourmet burgers
and club sandwiches, there is something for everyone. The restaurant is attached
to a Haagen Daaz shop so they do the most calorific desserts! The vibe is young
and its open all day including Sundays which in Cannes is quite rare.
